Step Up. Step Out! began as a research study conducted by the University of South
Carolina's Prevention Research Center in partnership with Sumter County Active Lifestyles and the Sumter County
Recreation and Parks Department. As a result of the program, the participants who stayed in the program for 24 weeks
increased their level of moderate or vigorous intensity physical activity by 40 minutes a day.
Now, Step Up. Step Out! is available to everyone!
Let's Get Started--
Step Up. Step Out! encourages you to exercise for 30 minutes a day at moderate intensity, 5 days
a week. The information provided on this website is designed to help you become physically active. You can set goals,
monitor you progress, and reward yourself for success. By the end of 24 weeks, you will establish physical activity
as part of your lifestyle.
This program is not intended to take the place of medical care. People beginning an exercise program
